CALGARY – RCMP reopened the southbound lanes of the QEII Highway between Didsbury and Carstairs on Thursday afternoon, hours after two crashes occurred on that stretch of road.
Both crashes happened around 8:30 a.m.
RCMP say a man was killed in one of the collisions while the other sent five people to hospital; four in non-life threatening condition and the fifth in serious but stable condition.
A witness told Global News he heard a girl screaming that her father had died shortly after the crash. At least three people rushed to rescue the girl but her father died at the scene.
RCMP closed down the southbound lanes to investigate the collisions.
EMS say there were between 20 and 25 cars involved in both of the crashes.
Visibility was limited on the highway at the time of the collision.
