Police push for motorcycle safety, following deadly crashes

Global News

CALGARY- Following a rash of deadly collisions involving motorcycles, Calgary Police are trying to hammer home the importance of riding safe.

There have been 206 motorbike crashes this year, including 38 that involved serious injuries. Nine were fatal.

Police are encouraging riders to stay out of blind spots, be alert at intersections, wear protective gear, ride defensively and be aware of your surroundings.

They add that drivers also have a responsibility, and ask them to look twice for motorcycles when changing lanes or proceeding through an intersection. Do not underestimate the speed of a motorcycle, and always check blind spots before changing lanes.
