Driver in Sylvan Lake crash had four times legal blood-alcohol limit: RCMP

SYLVAN LAKE – The driver involved in a crash near Sylvan Lake on Thursday had a blood-alcohol level four times the legal limit, according to RCMP.

Officers were dispatched to a three vehicle crash just north of the central Alberta town around midnight.

Police say a Porsche travelling at high rate of speed on northbound Highway 20 rear-ended a northbound Volkswagen near the Aspelund Road intersection.

The collision caused the Volkswagen to spin out of control and crash into a southbound tractor trailer unit that was carrying oilfield service equipment.

No one was seriously injured, but both the Porsche and Volkswagen were heavily damaged.

The driver of the Porsche, a 39-year-old Sylvan Lake man, was arrested at the scene for impaired driving.

RCMP say his blood sample showed he was four times the .08 driving limit.
