WATCH: The O.P.P. and a number of the GTA’s police services are teaming up for a two day public awareness and law enforcement blitz.
TORONTO – Ontario Provincial Police are reminding motorists to slow down and move over when they see stopped emergency vehicles on the highways.
The OPP, along with police forces, fire services and EMS in Durham region, will be conducting a two-day awareness campaign called Operation Move Over on Monday and Wednesday.
Officials say the potentially dangerous winter weather conditions mean drivers should keep in mind the importance of keeping all emergency workers safe when they are responding to emergencies on the highways.
The initiative will be focused on drivers who fail to move over for stopped emergency vehicles but police will also be looking out for the “Big Four“: aggressive driving, distracted driving, impaired driving and seat belt safety.
