EDMONTON — A 44-year-old man from the Red Deer-area was killed and a 30-year-old driver was arrested for impaired driving causing death in the central Alberta city Wednesday night.

The collision between a Ford 150 and the motorcycle happened at 19 Street and 30 Avenue around 6:30 p.m. Witnesses performed CPR and tried to revive the motorcycle driver before paramedics arrived, but the man died on the scene.

“We haven’t determined what charges will be laid,” said Sgt. Al Nickolson, Red Deer RCMP. “The accused’s name will be released once he is sworn before the courts.”

The victim, who is from the hamlet of Springbrook near Red Deer, is not being identified out of respect for his family’s privacy.

The intersection was blocked off for several hours as reconstruction experts investigated the circumstances behind the collision.
